Summertime Blues

Westchester Preparatory School

August 24th // 8:44 am

“This seat taken?” Massie Block stopped tapping her OPI coated nails against her table at Venti!, the new hit school cafe. The voice was all too familiar and Massie didn’t even bother looking up.

“This better be good, Hamilton.”

Skye Hamilton smiled menacingly at Massie as she sat down in the empty seat next to her. Skye’s blonde hair was up in a twisted, smooth, chignon bun with a plaid headband encrusted with Swarowski crystals. Her long legs were exposed with a tight, navy blue pencil skirt and a white halter neck, silk, shirt gave her chest and shoulders more than enough breathing room to which Massie rolled her eyes at.

It was the first day back at school and Massie was already over it. Although being a junior had its perks as she finally reached upperclassmen status, it was just another year of the freshman gawking at her, sophomores testing their luck to approach her and her own peers trying to make conversation which usually ended up with Massie shooting them down fast if they were under her status wise.

“Missed you so much this summer, M. Where were you off again? The Hamptons? Turks and Caicos? Well, I spent my summer here in Westchester, did you know that?” Skye went on as Massie sipped her skinny latte, bored already. Massie let her eyes swoop the crowd, looking for someone far more interesting to speak with. On most occasions she’d tell Skye off, but for some reason Skye seemed too smug for Massie to not listen. She thought of all the people she’d rather be talking to, top on the list was her best friends which should be walking in the school any minute now. Right behind them on the list was her delicious 5 month boyfriend, Danny Robinson, who had asked her out just before school let out last year. He was a senior, and already accepted to Yale under early decision. Massie didn’t throw around the word “perfect” lightly, but it certainly suited him. The thought of how she had managed the score the most wanted boy in Westchester Preparatory School made her smile to herself.

“I didn’t actually know that and I couldn’t care less, but please get to the point,” Massie smiled sweetly as she pushed away the loose brown curls from her face.

“Hm, always in a hurry,” Skye’s eyes twinkled and she spun the back of her Samsung Galaxy on the clean tabletop, around and around and around. “Anyway,” she stopped the phone with a hard finger to it and picked it back up again. The momentary thought of spilling her drink on Skye occurred to Massie, but she brushed it aside, taking to check her Michael Kors rose-gold watch instead. “Really, there’s no place like home, summer in Westchester was wonderful and I managed to see some…interesting things…how long have you and Danny been dating again?”

Massie’s stomach dropped, she looked back to Skye, and stared into those heartless, light blue eyes that had more than often reminded Massie of the Tiffany&Co. boxes. Then again, Tiffany boxes made Massie happy with the prospect of finding something new and shiny, whereas Skye was dangling Massie’s life right in front of her very eyes, and nothing about this was happy.

“Wh-what?” Massie asked. She took a deep breath and calmed herself. for all Massie knew Skye was playing one of her little games, and in fact knew nothing at all.

“I have pictures,” Skye sang innocently, “would you like to see?” Without any hesitation, Skye opened up her pictures folder and scrolled through the albums until she reached one titled ‘Oops!’ and giggling to herself for a moment, she opened it with a click and showed Massie exactly what she feared. “Junior year is going to be great, isn’t it Mass?”

Massie nodded numbly, whoever said the Devil wears prada was wrong, the Devil wore Lacoste and the Devil was sitting right across from Massie with a look of complete bliss on her face.

Skye Hamilton was the Devil’s incarnate, and here Massie Block thought she was the bitch.

Author’s Notes

Hey!! OK, so I kinda dropped off into school randomly, but I was so busy these past few weeks preparing for school that I didn’t have any time for a summer wrap-up or BackToSchool posts.

For me, school is officially back, which s u c k s. I’ll try to keep posting regularly but no promises, unfortunately.

Plot-wise, I don’t have any crazy drama planned. I mostly wanted to focus on developing some relationships for the next few posts. You’ll see what I mean in my next post (which I’m super excited about!).

ALSO I accidentally published this with it’s original draft title and then something happened to where I had to republish it- yikes that’s embarrassing. Sorry if you got double emails if you’re followed via email.

Have a great year, girls!!
